Winter Immersion in Women’s Spirituality/Pt. 2Instructor: Kim Duckett, Ph.D., Pr. WTI Credit: Matriculture and Mythology additional materials fee: $5 Women's and Goddess spirituality is made up of many different cultural threads. In order to truly be priestess- beings, circle facilitators, ritualists, or to to call ourselves educated in Women's and Goddess spiritualities, we must at least be familiar with this multi-cultural reality. We will be familiarizing ourselves with a number of the threads that have been foundational to this phenomenon called women's spirituality, including respectful forays into Native American women's traditions, Wicca, the work of Luisah Teish and her contemporary female-focused African spiritual traditions , the genre known as psychospirituality, a la Clarissa Estes and others. All of these have feminist spokeswomen. These are the resources we will study, to hear what women from these cultures have observed and offer regarding their cultures, traditions, or fields. In so doing, we will encounter an important consideration in Women's and Goddess spirituality, that is, the issue of appropriation. We will read and discuss excerpts from The Sacred Hoop: Recovering the Feminine in American Indian Traditions, by Paula Gunn Allen; Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals, by Luisah Teish; The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess, by Starhawk; and Women Who Run With Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype. Participants will be asked to procure these sources (borrow from friends, libraries, locate at used book stores, etc) or if need be the instructor will copy the readings and mail to participants. There will be an additional fee of $5 for these readings/mailings.
Archetypal Art: The Daughter, The Lover & the Amazon ArchetypesInstructor: Laura Keefe (lu) WTI Credit: MMD, Goddesses, Personal Growth, Integrated Studies Are you willing to know yourself more deeply by daring to take your Creatrix work to the next level? This is the class for those of you who desire to take a bold step into a sacred realm. For this session of Archetypal Art, we explore the Daughter, the Lover and the Amazon! This series (each class is independent) is inspired by the outstanding book The Circle of Life: Thirteen Archetypes for Every Woman by Elizabeth Davis and Carol Leonard: It is recommended reading but not required. Along with creating works of art, our class includes ritual work with the archetypes to allow for an even deeper experience. A very broad range of creating is encouraged; art might include painting, sculpting, photography, music, poetry, cooking, dance or any style that YOU feel fits the assignments. Participants are expected post their progress at least once per week, and share their creations with the class. Discussion is encouraged, and lu replies to all posts. If you create a tangible piece of art, it is helpful (but not required) to post photos of your art. lu creates along with the class and shares her art as well. Experienced artists & newcomers are welcome, and encouraged to participate & create in honor of the life journeys of women!
Contemplative PracticesInstructor: Bellezza Squillace WTI Credit: Goddesses, Ritual, Personal Growth Obviously, many mainstream religions include Contemplative practices. The challenge for us is to re-discover our roots because the OLD RELIGION was in place before this began. We know that many of those mainstream religions adapted their practices to include those of our Pagan ancestors to draw them in and keep them. Rather than re-invent the wheel for our work, this online class will look at how WE, as Pagans, experience the deeper spiritual growth in our own magick. Contemplative spirituality looks at mysticism, empathy, communication skills and spiritual development. We define PAGAN contemplative spirituality, learn the skill and practices and work to bring contemplative living to everyday life. We discuss seven basic areas of contemplative practice: Activist, Stillness, Movement, Generative, Ritual/Cyclical, Creation and Relational.
Surviving the Fall: Preparedness 101Instructor: Kip Parker and Justice Fire WTI Credit: Environment, AOL, Activism Be ready for catastrophic situations such as natural or political disasters and economic collapse. Common sense tells us that people who are prepared tend to survive at a much higher rate than those who are not. This online course will cover the basics of implementing a plan for ourselves, our families and our Tribe. Participants consider personal priorities, regional risks, logistical realities as they are guided by the facilitators to take away a well formed idea of what their personal plan of action will look at as well as how to begin implementing that plan
StarWords:2012's Mercury Retrograde on FireInstructor: Bellezza Squillace WTI Credit: Divination, Personal Growth, Feminism You can enter this class with little to no experience, or as an advanced learner, discovering new insights that will carry you to the next level of understanding of this very complex science. Each participant will work at her own pace for 6 lessons so you learn your personal astro placements within this system. For this class, you will receive a copy of your birth chart. As the class proceeds, we learn the effects of the Mercury Retrogrades in 2012 in the Fire signs. Each participant will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding what she knows and wants to know and how these retrograde motions change the energy in and around us.
