WTI LiaisonsEach WTI Group has a Liaison. Liaisons are intended to function as something similar to a “Student Council” within WTI. This role was created to promote a cyclic flow of information between the WTI Advisory Council, WTI Groups, and Participants. It is hoped Liaisons will provide input from WTI Participants which will inform the Advisory Council of the issues, concerns and experiences of WTI Participants. Duties and Responsibilities for Liaisons
WTI Liaisons may take information, concerns, issues, experiences or news from their WTI group and share it with the other Liaisons. Some decisions which affect the program are better made by the WTI groups. When an issue of this nature comes to the attention of the Advisory Council, information about the question will be forwarded to each Liaison. Each Liaison will then communicate with her WTI group, reach consensus, and report the answer to the Advisory Council. It is assumed that Liaisons will represent the feelings of their group and not their own thoughts. Questions and issues may at times come from the groups themselves. The Liaisons are empowered to make recommendations about the program to the Advisory Council on issues about which the Liaisons reach consensus. Who Do Liaisons Meet? A Faculty Convener, appointed by the Advisory Council, acts as a Convener of the Liaisons. This Convener is responsible for assembling, monitoring and assisting the Liaisons. The Convener is an ex-officio member of the Liaisons able to participate in discussions, but not counted in the consensus. The Faculty Convener and the Liaisons together select the way in which the Liaisons will gather and do business. The decision making process used by the Liaisons will be consensus. How Do Liaisons Report to the WTI Advisory Council? The Liaisons communicate to the Advisory Council though their Representative. (link -glossary) The Liaison Representative acts in an Advisory manner to the Advisory Council. The Liaison Representative participates in discussions, but is not counted in the consensus. The Liaison Representative can participate in the portion of the Advisory Council meetings which directly affect participants. WTI will reimburse up to $400 in travel expenses for the Liaison Representative to attend Advisory Council meetings. These monies are only to reimburse travel expenses and are not a stipend for attendance. The Liaison Representative will be asked to provide receipts for her travel expenses and will receive community housing and food during her stay at the meeting location. Advisory Council Meetings The Advisory Council meets twice a year. Generally, a proposed agenda is developed one month in advance of the meeting. The Advisory Council will notify the Liaison Representative and Faculty Convener of the date of the meeting and the proposed agenda.
