My life is my canvass
And I
Have always been afraid to paint.

In my first span, I surrendered the crayons
Fearful the pictures
Would not be perfect.

Then I found
Abstracts
Aren’t so hard.

In the middle,
I drew with actions
I colored with words
I sketched with determination.

I toyed with water colors;
Betrayal washed them out.

Friends come and friends go---
I remain
To crush the pigments
To add the mediums
To stir and spread

I’m in phase three,
The last cycle,
The final third.

It’s time to paint with oil.
