Goddess Limericks

The Eskimo Sedna was drowned,
Her fingers cut off on the way down,
Turned to seals and whales,
So now she prevails,
In Adlivum her gifts can be found

Horse Goddess Epona from Gaul
Was protector to mare and to foal
She was said to birth kings
And, to ride on her brings
Inspiration and plenty to all

The Bird Goddess Valkyrie appears
As a raven when death is quite near,
She helps us to know,
We need darkness to grow,
Her blackness is nothing to fear

Roman Flora, the Maiden of Spring
Gives new life to everything,
To gardens and flowers
And the passionate hours,
The Festival of May Eve brings

Before the Greek Hera married Zeus,
She already wore the Queen’s shoes,
With as many peacock eyes,
As the stars in the skies,
She put her omnipresent vision to use

Polynesian Hina created the Earth,
To gods and humans then she gave birth,
When her eel lover was dead,
A coconut tree sprang from its head,
From her home on the Moon she sends mirth

Medusa had serpents for hair,
Greek soldiers were fearful to stare
At this crone’s face of death,
But new life it begets,
When slayed, she became a white mare

Welsh triple Moon Goddess Arianhod
Virgin Mother to green life growing in the Wood,
As her silver wheel spins,
Another cycle begins,
In her castle souls wait for a new bod

Hel the Norse Queen of the Underground
Refreshes her guests on their way around
If they come wearing masks,
She takes them to task,
Uncovering Truths to be found

Rhiannon the Welsh Goddess could make
Any form that she wanted to take
A white horse or bird
Whose sweet song is heard,
She’s Vivien, the Lady of the Lake
