Game of Life

by Marisa Folse

I would not call myself an avid video gamer. I still enjoy the slow pace of Pong and am still challenged by Gallaga/Space Invaders and Super Mario Brothers games. The increasing availability for free online games has drastically opened my exposure to the gaming world. Heck, there is even a plan for video gaming to become an Olympic sport! But a recent article (System Override by Lisa Renee at energeticsynthesis.com) made me take a closer look at gaming in relation to spiritual evolution.

Ms. Renee’s article states that our three dimensional reality is set up like a video game. As such, most of us think and operate only at Level One of life’s game. At Level One we usually engage our ego to make decisions that maneuver us through day to day existence. At Level One, we also use our instinct and a small part of our subconscious. We deal with life through areas specifically related to our physical interactions with our surrounding world.

Similarly, we who place spiritual growth as the main focus of our lives have elevated our spiritual consciousness. As a result, we have advanced to Level Two in our Game of Life. Within Level Two we engage our psychic skills; we consciously manifest major parts of our lives. It is like those advanced video games where the choices we make create a whole new game for us each time we play.

On a personal note, I tend to avoid those choice driven games; I like predictability - Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel. Choice prompted games remind me too much of daily life and I play for the escape factor, but I digress.

In our Game of Life, most of us have no idea that our game Playing Level is temporary. We certainly do not realize we limit our game by our views of who we think we are. If we believe we are: put upon, struggling to make ends meet, handicapped, fill-in-the-blank - we then live that chosen reality every day. We get stuck within a specific Level of life’s game. We find ourselves re-visiting the same life issues. We pack our stuff, change jobs, move to another state to encounter the same frustrations, aggravations and struggles we left behind us. We do not recognize that we still maneuver with our old patterns of action and engagement. We miss the fact that we are in a game and are stuck at the same Level. If we were outside ourselves looking in, we would see our little Ms. PacMan giving up the ghost at the same place every time we play.

If we stepped back further and looked at the entire game system, we would better understand our overall spiritual pathway. As spiritual beings, when we do not achieve our end result in one lifetime, we re-start that game Level again and again until it is complete for us. Gaming gives perfect examples of this phenomenon. Personally, I have been playing up to Level Three of Super Mario Brothers for over a decade. Really, I cannot seem to get past that octopus-like protector. Each time I get there my little Mario guy runs out of lives. Yes, it is an old game, but the new ones are a bit beyond my aged dexterity.

Advancing Through the Game!

Often those of us who are even remotely empathic encounter geographic locales or individuals that exude ancient agony. Sadly, many of our strongest and most transformative growth experiences are painful or traumatizing. For some of us, we repeat hundreds or thousands of traumatic lifetimes, storing ancient pain deep into our lower energy centers or chakras. As we keep repeating our painful life patterns, we most likely forget how to connect to our own Divine Source for healing and guidance. Our spiritual being may become distorted. Our life game may be stuck in a rut of our own making. However, we have spiritual options we do not even realize we have.

Most video games give us tools when we have reached a certain score or have accomplished a specific task. It is the same with our spiritual life. We can use and draw upon these tools to plot our way through the ins and outs of each Game Level in life. We can use our handy magic wand to fill in the gaps of our life’s puzzle or use our spirit guide’s key to open the locked door to obtain knowledge and understanding or eat an healing mushroom that alters our awareness and changes our inner blocks.

In some games (as in many emails and instant message chat spaces) we can create a digital self image known as an avatar. Spiritually, it is our psychic self projection that we subconsciously create when we astral travel or do distance healing and energy work. Often in video games we can chose and avatar or create our own. Some times as we change Levels, we have the opportunity to upgrade our avatar to one with better skills and features. A good visual example is in The Matrix movies. Any needed skill or knowledge was uploaded directly into the needy mind for immediate use.

In the game of life, each of us has a spiritual avatar of our own creation. Our abilities are only limited by our own choices and thoughts. Perhaps we have set limits upon our spiritual selves. Perhaps we have restricted our growth by our perceptions of reality.

We need only step back for a moment - hit Pause in the game. Take a larger look at our current situation, at our patterns and strategies. Look at who we present ourselves to be. We have unlimited tools available to us. We have the ability to upgrade our spiritual avatar for our greater good. We may not be able to choose our current Game Level, but we can break out of our predictable pattern and consciously manifest which direction our life game will go.
