Full Moon in Libra
Libra is a cardinal (initiating) air sign ruled by the planet Venus. It affects the womyn’s need to cooperate with others and create harmony and balance. Magnifying the capacity for meaningful relationships, it emphasizes sharing and significant one-to-one relationships such as mates, business partners, clients. Venus rules beauty, art, pleasure, emotions, partnership. Cardinal air is like a steady wind which changes direction then moves on to something else. Libra fosters shared vision, teamwork, community and balance, while it represents self-relationship and searches for ways to connect. It asks us to treat those around us as equals, appreciate the beauty in cooperation, and offers us kindness, mediation and justice. The challenge of Libra is to learn to heed our personal voice while under conflict. The full moon in Libra influences a dislike of unattractive demonstrations of feelings, or feelings that separate us from others. We want to diffuse difficult feelings, often at personal expense. When there is peace and harmony within, regardless of what is going on around the self, personal balance is achieved. In Libra there may be difficulty expressing personal needs and a fear of solitude, so time is needed to connect with the inner self. Because the desire for balance can frustrate decision-making ability, take time to carefully weigh options. Experiment with adding green to your home or wardrobe. Maintain equality and/or find a way to strike a compromise in relationships; help mediate an intense situation; propose marriage; form a legal partnership. Make something in your life more beautiful. Ideas for personal and group ritual Before the ritual think about times in your life when you were under conflict, emotionally upset and let others’ needs come before your own; write down how you felt and how the conflict was resolved. Ask yourself how you could have felt differently if you had contacted your inner self and expressed at the time what you wanted or needed. Choose symbols for the elements that reflect a need or something you want in your life, such as: a feather for an airline ticket to a vacation spot—east; a candle for a more passionate relationship with your partner—south; a shell for a vacation at the beach—west; sand for the same vacation—north; a bouquet of flowers for beauty in your life—center. Place symbols in the direction of the specific element and consecrate them by stating the ritual intent, “I am responsible for my own happiness and can ask for what I need and want.” Place one or more small hand mirrors in the east for womyn’s use. Working alone or in a group, starting with east and walking clockwise (sunwise or deosil) purify the space and/or cast a circle calling on the inner needs each element meets for you in your life, for example: east—the need to speak your truth as a womon; south—the need for courage and will to fuel your work; west—the need for relationship, love and nurturing; north—the need for strength and support; center—the need for spiritual connection. Raise energy and connect together by breathing and sounding; you may wish to try a “MA” chant; or by singing a goddess song such as, “Spirit of the Wind,” from the book Songs for Earthlings, pg. 29. When all have connected, sit in a circle. One at a time, each womon steps to the center and asks for something she wants in her life; it can be something tangible like a vacation or new house, or something she needs like time to herself, or a quality she wants in her life such as the strength and support of her friends. Whatever it is, the rest of the group shouts and yells approval after her statement. She then takes one of the small mirrors, and making eye contact with herself states, “I am responsible for my own happiness and can ask for what I need and want..” After speaking, each womon gets applause and encouragement from the group and is libated (sprinkled with water). When all womyn have finished, stand together, hold hands and shout three times, “As we will it, so shall it be,” each time more forcefully until the last time is with full energy. Throw your arms up into the air and send the energy into the elements to work for you. Close the ritual by singing the original or another approriate song. Walking widdershins, thank the elements and Goddess for their assistance by the directions: center, north, west, south, east. Open the circle, feast and celebrate the happiness which you’ve created.
