Lunar Link By Sandy LiminaFor several years RCGI published a newsletter The Crescent which included a Lunar Link column for full moon rituals based on varying traditions.. Written by De-Anna Alba, the information and rituals were intended to connect or link solitaries and groups of womyn throughout the country in “shared ritual and…Magikal action.” These New Lunar Link offerings are a downlink from that column, based on the astrological sun sign the moon is in when it’s full. Participation is completely voluntary; if you don’t like a suggested ritual, don’t do it, or devise one that works better for you. It’s hoped the information given will assist you in planning whatever work you may want to do during the monthly phase of the full moon. Since we all live in different time zones and the effects of the moon last from sunset to sunrise, if we link up at 10:00 p.m. local time, the resultant energetic will receive a fresh infusion every two hours or so during the 24 hour period. However you choose to participate and at whatever time, you will still help augment the magikal energy. Dates, times (Eastern), and astrological signs for the 2002-03 full moons from Hallows to Hallows are listed in the table below. The moon goes into a different astrological sign about every 2-½ days, moving through the twelve zodiac signs every 29 ½ days to complete a sidereal or lunar month. Traditionally described as the Mother, the moon’s changes directly influence our emotional inner world. The individual astrological moon sign reflects the qualities of the core self and indicates personal, spiritual lineage, and the emotional nature. While the sun represents your personality, the moon represents the internal or private womon self—your feelings, emotions and subconscious. Knowing what sign the full moon is in can give you insight into your personal growth, and using the full moon energy can enhance your daily life, working to your advantage in your relationship to yourself and in relationships at home and work. The full moon begins the third quarter of the monthly lunar cycle when the sun’s full light shines directly opposite onto the complete face of the moon’s sphere. It stands for illumination, fulfillment, completion, drawing inward, unrest, and emotional expressions. This is a time of maturity, fruition, and the fullness of expression and can be a time of climax or fulfillment of the beginning action or direction that began at the New Moon--a high-impact period where what you’ve been building works, but balance and integration are also required. The challenge is to find a meaningful purpose for what you’ve built. Each monthly full moon Lunar Link includes descriptions of the astrological sun sign and what the moon’s placement means as it impacts the personal self in that sign, which are then incorporated into the following ideas suggested for use by womyn either as personal or group ritual. Ritual suggestions for purifying sacred space and/or casting a circle are taken from northern traditions, where directional elements are called by walking clockwise or sunwise (sometimes called deosil) around the circle: east, south, west, north and center. Walking the opposite direction counterclockwise (often called widdershins) is used to close the ritual and open the circle: center, north, west, south, east. In other traditions, especially in many of our southern sisters’ families, directions start from the north, and widdershins may be used differently, depending on the intent of the ritual and the heritage. Please feel feel to adapt any suggestion to your particular tradition. Rituals are original, based on the author’s knowledge and experience; astrological information was researched from the books listed under the full moon dates.
